How to Claim Your Free Amazon Baby Welcome Box in 5 Easy Steps

If you’ve read my post about the best places to register for your baby shower, you’ll know that Amazon tops my list because of their wide product selection, free 2-day shipping, completion discount, and 90-day registry return window on most products.

Yet another reason that I love Amazon’s baby registry is that they offer a free baby registry welcome box (worth up to $35) for Prime members (yes, you can get the welcome box with a free 30-day trial to Prime). Yes, Amazon will ship a box to your doorstep with baby products and samples, worth up to $35. After creating your baby registry, there are a few extra steps to follow to claim your welcome box from Amazon. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about just how to do this (it’s a little confusing, to be honest) so I created this step-by-step guide. Follow the steps below and you’ll have your free Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box shipped to your doorstep in no time.

How to Get the Free Baby Registry Welcome Box for Pregnant Moms

What’s in the Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box?

Valued at up to $35, Amazon’s Welcome Box has recently included a swaddle blanket, wipes, plastic Avent baby bottle, baby lotion, a baby toy, and more. When I received my free baby registry welcome box, it included:

    • 1 Swaddle Designs Muslin Swaddle (46″ x 46″)
    • 1 Bright Start Snuggle & Teethe Toy
    • Amazon Elements wipes (full size)
    • 1 Philips Avent 4 oz. bottle (plastic)
    • A sample of Pampers Diapers & Sensitive Wipes
    • A sample of Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment
    • A sample bottle of Aveeno Baby Lotion
    • Sample breast pads from Munchkin

Others have received different products and samples, so please be aware that you may not receive exactly what I received.

What's In the Free New Baby Registry Welcome Box

How do you Claim the Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box?

How to get your New Baby Registry Welcome Box

To claim your free Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box, follow these steps:

    1. Create your Amazon Baby Registry
    2. Sign up for Amazon Prime’s free 30-day trial
    3. Add products to your Baby Registry
    4. Purchase $10 worth of eligible products from your registry (or receive a gift worth $10)
    5. Claim your Welcome Box and receive free baby product samples in the mail.

Follow these steps and you’ll receive your Welcome Box in no time (while supplies last). Of course, you must meet Amazon’s eligibility requirements, and the Welcome Box must be in stock.

Step 1: Create an Amazon Baby Registry

The first step is to create an Amazon Baby Registry, which takes just a couple of minutes.

    Create Your Baby Registry

You’ll need to enter your basic information including your name, email address, baby’s expected arrival date, and your shipping address. You can also do the following:

    • Enter a co-registrant (optional). You can add your significant other’s name, if your baby shower guests or family members might be searching the registry in his name.
    • Adjust your registry’s privacy settings. If you’re not ready to publish your registry, you can keep it private by selecting “Just Me for Now”. You can also make the registry Public, or make the registry  available to people who are given the direct registry link.
    • By expanding the “A little bit more about you” section, you can also add your baby’s gender and whether or not this is your first baby. Both are optional.
    • Add a personal note to your friends and family, which is a nice little touch.
    • Set your preferences, including whether you’d like to receive email notifications when a gift is purchased. (Try not to peek! It’s so fun getting boxes on your doorstep and gifts at your baby shower.)

Keep your baby registry open for now, and we’ll come back to this in step 3.

Step 2: Sign up for a free trial to Amazon Prime

One of the requirements to get the Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box is that you’ll need to be a member of Amazon Prime. If you aren’t already a member, you can currently sign up for a FREE 30-day trial of Amazon Prime. You can cancel at any time, and if you cancel within the 30 day trial, you won’t be charged the $99 annual fee.

Members of Amazon Prime save 20% on diaper subscriptions and receive additional discounts, compliments of Amazon Family. As a member, you’ll also receive Amazon’s upgraded 15% baby registry completion discount, free two-day Prime shipping on eligible products, exclusive coupons, free photo storage, unlimited music streaming, Prime Video streaming, and more. It’s definitely worth the $99 per year! Sign up for Amazon Prime here.

Step 3: Add Items to Your Baby Registry

Ok, now let’s go back to your baby registry. Amazon has a checklist covering different baby registry items, from bathtime and feeding to clothing and health & safety. Go through each of these sections and add at least one product to your registry. Be sure to follow my baby registry checklist to register for safe, gentle, and non-toxic baby products!

As you add products to your registry, Amazon will automatically check off any items you’ve completed. For example, when you add a baby bathtub to your registry, “Bath Tub” will automatically be checked off for you.

How to get the New Mom Welcome Box - Baby Registry

As you’re adding products to your baby registry, you may come across categories or items that you don’t want to include in your registry. For example, you may not have room in your home for a baby swing or you may already have a baby carrier. Just click “Mark Items Complete” and you’ll be able to mark off any items you don’t plan on registering for.

Hot to Get the Free new baby Welcome Box

You’ll notice that the checklist tool will tell you how complete your baby registry is. Keep adding products to your registry until the tool says that your checklist is complete. On your main registry page, you can check your status at any time by clicking “Check Status” in the “Welcome Box” section. (Also note: you can add anything from Amazon to your baby registry, though you may not be able to use your completion discount on products that aren’t baby-related.)

Don’t stress about which products to add! I’ve done all the research for you, so you’ll save tons of time in setting up your baby registry. Here are a few of the most popular sections of the natural baby registry guide to help you get started:

Step 4: Buy $10 Worth of Eligible Products From Your Registry

After you’ve completed steps 1-3, the final step is to complete a purchase from your registry worth $10 or more. Of course, you don’t have to do this yourself, but you can! If someone buys you an eligible gift worth $10 or more from your registry, you’ll meet this requirement.

Simply add an item to your cart from your baby registry, proceed to checkout, and place your order. I recommend ordering something you know you’ll need, like this life-saving product for postpartum or these mood-boosting probiotics for postpartum.

Once your item has shipped, you’ll be able to order your Welcome Box!

**Note: You won’t be able to order your Welcome Box until Amazon has shipped the item(s) you ordered to meet the $10 minimum. The checkbox will remain unchecked until your item has been shipped to you.

Step 5: Claim Your Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box!

After your $10+ registry item has shipped, your Welcome Box checklist should be complete. Once you have all three checkmarks, click the “Claim Now” button to order your Welcome Box.

Get the Free Baby Registry Welcome Box

As you check out, make sure that the cost for the Welcome Box is $0. It’s completely free, including shipping.

**Note: Make sure not to modify your payment settings. Or simply use the one-click button to make your purchase. You may have to make sure the $35 promotional credit is checked.**

The first time I tried to order mine, it was showing a $35 fee for the Welcome Box because I modified my payment preferences. I simply went back to my cart and tried again without modifying my payment details, and there was no fee. If you have any trouble with this, contact Amazon Customer Service for assistance.

Wondering when you should start your baby registry? Well, I think the best time to start a registry is around the end of your 12th week of pregnancy, which is essentially the end of the first trimester. This is the point at which most moms-to-be can relax a little more knowing that all is well with their pregnancy and really start to plan.

Now for my top tip for getting ahead with your baby registry planning. START AN AMAZON BABY REGISTRY RIGHT NOW AND THEN ADD EVERYTHING YOU WANT AS YOU GO. The Amazon Baby Registry is a universal registry, which means you can add ANY PRODUCTS from ANY WEBSITE

Given that most of us have an Amazon account, this is a super-easy way to keep track of everything you research and decide you want for your new baby. It literally takes less than a minute to sign up – see the form below – CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP NOW.

Amazon baby registry sign up form, how to sign up to Amazon baby registry, best universal baby registry, when to start your baby registry?

BUT IS 12 WEEKS VERY EARLY TO START A BABY REGISTRY?

12 weeks may still feel very early to be starting your baby registry, but it is well worth giving yourself plenty of time to plan what you are going to add. This is especially true if you are a first-time mom.

Yep, the biggest benefit to starting your registry early is that you have plenty of time to research everything you need to buy.

THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU START A BABY REGISTRY

Don’t underestimate the importance and the power of research!!! There is an overwhelming amount of baby stuff out there and every brand is busy shouting that their baby products are the best. So make sure to spend time:

    • Comparing brands
    • Reading product reviews from experts and real moms (who are also experts!!)
    • Speaking to friends who are a couple of steps ahead of you with motherhood for their recommendations and take a look at the baby kit they have
    • Visiting a real-life actual shop to see baby items in real life!!

The more you research the more likely you are to end up with things you will really find useful once you are a new mom.

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU PLAN TO FIND OUT THE BABY’S SEX?

The scan that can determine the baby’s sex usually takes place at around 20 weeks, so you can still spend time putting together a list of the baby essentials you will need and then add more specific items later.

    COMPLETING YOUR BABY REGISTRY

The other big thing to keep in mind when you’re working out when to start your baby registry, is when you want to have completed your registry by. There are a couple of things to consider here.

Firstly, it’s not unusual to feel really tired and heavy during the last few weeks of pregnancy, so you don’t want to be worrying about adding stuff to your registry at that point. Oh and of course a due date is only ever an estimate, so you want to make sure you have everything bought and to hand in time for your baby arriving.

The other big thing to think about is the timing for sharing your registry with family and friends. Are you planning to have a baby shower? If so, you will want your registry complete before you send out your baby shower invites.

Baby shower etiquette dictates that you don’t include the registry details on the actual invite, the most accepted thing to do is to include a separate insert or note, that way your guests don’t feel obliged to buy from the registry.

Most moms-to-be tend to have their baby shower between six and eight months (24 to 34 weeks) of pregnancy, with a lot of moms-to-be having them from four to six weeks (32 to 34 weeks pregnant) before their baby’s due date.

So bear these timings in mind when you’re deciding when to start your registry.

THE BIG BENEFITS OF USING A BABY REGISTRY

One of the biggest benefits of using a baby registry like Amazon is that you get an extended returns period. For example, Amazon allows you a whole 365 days from the day you receive a gift bought via your baby registry and you have 90 days from receipt of shipment for anything you buy yourself from the registry.

The other big benefit of having a registry and planning it well is that you can make use of the completion discount. Amazon has a 10% completion discount (15% for PRIME members)

CAN YOU START MORE THAN ONE BABY REGISTRY?

Baby Center did a survey of moms-to-be and discovered that nearly 60% create more than one registry. There are some good reasons why you might want more than one:

    • One main registry for you and another for gift-givers (particularly good if you don’t want to put big-ticket items on a registry for friends)
    • Take advantage of welcome incentives and completion discounts
    • Mix and match brands and retailers

Whilst you are at liberty to start as many registries as you want, I’d suggest you stick to starting either one or two. One great way to manage multiple registries is to use a universal baby registry, like Amazon, that allows you to add items from anywhere. Take a look at my guide to the best baby registries to discover the best universal baby registries

IS IT OK TO START A BABY REGISTRY FOR A SECOND BABY?

Yes, yes and yes!!!! It is totally fine to start a registry for your second baby or any subsequent babies you have. You may well decide to not have a baby shower, but you will more than likely have friends and family who will want to buy a gift for your second baby and you may well need to update existing baby items that you have or swap them for better items. The world of baby products is ever-changing, innovations are plentiful.

Plus adding everything to a registry means that you get another chance to make the most of welcome gifts and completion discounts, who doesn’t want gifts and discounts!!!

The Best Baby Registry Sites: Amazon vs Target (and 3 Others)

    Congratulations! You’re pregnant!

    Now you’re wondering this:

Where should I open my baby registry?

There are a few different places you might be considering.

They probably include the obvious ones: Babies “R” Us, Buy Buy Baby and Target.

When I was pregnant, I spent so much time looking at the different registry programs to find one I liked. I didn’t want to jump straight to Babies “R” Us like some people suggested I do.

Since I took so much time figuring it out, I thought that I might as well summarize my research for everyone else’s benefit!

Today I’ll tell you about the 5 main baby registry programs, and which one I recommend you use!

Where Should I Open My Baby Registry?

I personally went with Amazon for my registry.

Not only did they have the widest selection, but being a member of Amazon Mom, I got a 15% completion discount. I’d personally recommend Amazon for your registry, but some of the other options are good, too.

I went through and listed the benefits, perks and completion bonuses of the 5 most popular baby registries: Amazon, Babies r Us, Buy Buy Baby, Target and Pottery Barn.

Of all of them, the only one I couldn’t really recommend was Target, and you’ll see why.

    #1 – Amazon Baby Registry

    Amazon Baby Registry

Amazon has a great baby registry that’s becoming more popular by the year. And it’s my personal favorite.

Click here to see the details of Amazon’s free registry!

The biggest benefit is that they give 10% off select items in your registry, or 15% if you’re a member of Amazon Mom (which is a great service, especially for diaper shopping).

The way the completion discount works is this: select items (not everything, but most) purchased within 30 days of the baby’s due date for up to $5000 worth of products. This is pretty significant; if you have $2000 worth of products, you’ll save $200 ($300 as an Amazon Mom member) right off the top, and that’s not even including they’re regular sales and discounts on baby stuff.

You can add products from any site, not just Amazon, so it makes for a great all-in-one registry compared to other places. So, for example, if you find something on the Babies r’ Us site that you want, you can simply add it to your Amazon Baby registry with the click of a button. Easy peasy.

Another reason I liked Amazon Baby is that the prices on Amazon tend to be cheaper compared to other places. Amazon is pretty great that way. If you combine the cheap prices, the 10-15% discount and free shipping with Prime, it can really add up and save a lot of money.

Amazon has an awesome return policy, too. Pretty much all baby gear is eligible for free returns for 90 days after purchase; we all know how fussy some babies can be, so this is excellent.

I was also pleased to find out that the gift-giver is not informed that the item was returned, so you could theoretically use the return credit on anything you wish.

Finally, Amazon has a huge selection of products. They carry virtually everything under the sun that you could possibly want on your registry list: baby bottles, car seats, strollers, baby monitors, etc. You can put together a complete registry easily.

The downside to Amazon’s baby registry? Some people prefer shopping from physical stores as opposed to online.

However, there is an option to print off the registry list, and if the shoppers are tech-savvy, they can log on and indicate which items they purchased.

All in all, this was my personal choice for my baby registry. They have a great little system and it’s hard to choose anything else over them!

How To Mark Items As Purchased (Even if Not From Amazon)

If you have family members that prefer not to buy things online (understandable, especially for those families with generational differences!) they can still buy from brick and mortar stores and mark it as purchased.

All they have to do is look at your registry, and then there’s a button you can click on each of the registered items to mark it as purchased.

    Here’s how it works.

    1. First, send them a link to your baby registry. If not possible, they can search for it on the registry website located here.

    2. Then have them search for your registered name, like so:

Amazon Registry How To: Step 2

    3. Have them find your registry. It shouldn’t be too hard, even if you have a common name.

    4. Scroll down and find the items purchased. They should see a button that says “Mark as purchased.” and should click it.

Amazon Registry How To: Step 3

    5. A box will pop up where they enter the information, including their name, where they purchased it, and their email.

    6. They should go to their email and click the link Amazon sends them to confirm. That’s it!

It’s really easy to use, even for people who aren’t internet savvy. Worst case scenario, they could ask a friend or relative who is to go through the process and mark it as purchased for them.

    It’s easy!

    Summary:

    • Completion discount: 10% off the top for qualifying items (15% for Amazon Mom members) 4 weeks before due date
    • Return policy: 90 days on most items, free returns
    • Selection: Excellent, they carry virtually everything
    • Other perks: Universal system, can add items from any store.

How to Make a Registry on Amazon:

Just click on this link and click on the left where it says “Create a Registry“. It’s a really simple and short process!

    #2 – Babies R’ Us Registry

    Babies R Us Registry

Babies R’ Us is one of the most well-known baby stores, and their registry is maybe the most popular of all.

They offer some nice perks; they’ll price match anything from other stores, and that includes Amazon, but it needs to be an in-store purchase.

They offer a 10% completion coupon that you receive in the mail. It can be used in-store or online, but the catch is that it can only be used for one single purchase. Not everyone is going to want to buy everything all at once, and it is only usable on items that you included on your registry.

You also get 5-10% back in the form of a gift card for any item purchased from the registry, whether you purchase it or a gift-giver does.

You get 5% on your first $300, and 10% on anything over $300; for example, if you spend $1000 you’ll get $85 back in giftcard form. You’ll receive the giftcard approximately 10 weeks after the baby’s due date.

The biggest perk of the Babies R’ Us registry is the generous return policy. They’ll accept returns (for store credit) up to 1 year after your due date for any item that’s on your registry. They definitely win out in this regard compared to the other registries.

On the downside, the selection isn’t nearly as good as Amazon and the prices tend to be more expensive overall. On the other hand, they will pricematch Amazon.com prices if they happen to carry the same items; you can only price match in-store, not online.

While not as good as Amazon’s registry in my opinion, it does work well for parents who don’t necessarily want to purchase online and feel more comfortable shopping in-store.

    Summary:

    • Completion discount: 10% off the top for items in the registry; 1-shot coupon so must purchase all at once
    • Return policy: 1-year return on items that are on your registry
    • Selection: Not quite as good as Amazon, bigger selection online than in-store
    • Other perks: 10-15% gift card cashback

#3 – Buy Buy Baby Registry

    Buy Buy Baby Registry

Buy Buy Baby is the baby offshoot of Bed Bath & Beyond; the benefit of this is that those 20% off BBB coupons that might stack up can be used at Buy Buy Baby, which might really come in handy. They will exclude certain high-end brands from the 20% off coupons, though.

Buy Buy Baby is known to have excellent customer service, and their selection tends to be better than Babies r Us, but not quite as good as Amazon’s.

They offer free in-store “consultations” with an expert, which sounds nice at first, but in practice it ends up being pretty annoying and pushy.

Judging by the experiences of a few moms, they end up walking around and adding things to your registry you didn’t ask for and overwhelming you with information on every item. It ends up being more of a hassle than a perk.

BBB offers a completion discount that seems to vary between 10-15%, and you should get it a few weeks before your due date. Pretty standard. Their return policy is pretty good, and they’ll accept returns up to 90 days after due date even if you don’t have a gift receipt.

The problem with Buy Buy Baby is that they aren’t nearly as widespread as Babies r Us, so if your gift-givers are going to be shopping in-store, this could really make the difference.

All in all, BBB’s registry isn’t bad, and most people seem to like it more than BRU’s. It really boils down to which is more convenient

    Summary:

    • Completion discount: 10-15% coupon you’ll receive a few weeks before due date
    • Return policy: 90 days, no receipt required as long as it’s on your registry
    • Selection: Better than Babies r Us and Target
    • Other perks: Bed Bath & Beyond coupons can be used, makes for a nice discount

#4 – Pottery Barn Kids Registry

    Pottery Barn Kids Registry

Not exactly the most popular baby registry, but not for lack of perks, Pottery Barn has a nice baby registry that gets good reviews from parents who use it.

The main reason it’s not used as much is because Pottery Barn isn’t really known as a baby store, and their products do tend to be more expensive than the average store.

Pottery Barn’s registry has a 10% completion discount that runs for 6 months after your due date, and you can also add things to it during this time that will quality for the 10%. This also counts for non-baby items and furniture!

However, there’s a downside; the discount only begins after your due date, which isn’t very convenient, especially when most of the other registries begin their completion discount periods weeks before your due date. You also get 10% off any multiple-purchased items, such as blankets. It could be nice, especially if you’re having twins.

People can shop from your registry either online or in-store, but there aren’t nearly as many Pottery Barn locations as Babies r Us or Target.

While Pottery Barn tends to run more expensive, their products are very high quality. They also have some cute perks like the option to have items monogrammed or personalized with your baby’s name.

As far as return policies, Pottery Barn Kids doesn’t have the best. They offer a 30 day return policy for full refund, but all monogrammed/personalized items are final sale.

Finally, they have a monthly $1500 drawing every month for people registered with Pottery Barn. It’s not exactly something that should make the difference, but it’s a nice little bonus.

Pottery Barn Kids can be a nice baby registry option for some people, especially if they’re fans of Pottery Barn. While I couldn’t personally recommend it as the best baby registry option, it’s definitely a good one.

    Summary:

    • Completion discount: 10% coupon usable for 6 months after due date, basically functions as 10% PB discount as it can be used on anything.
    • Return policy: 30 days, anything personalized is final sale
    • Other perks: Items can be personalized with names, can add anything to registry for 10% discount, $1500 monthly drawing

    #5 – Target Baby Registry

    Target Baby Registry

The most convenient registry option: with over 1900 stores in the USA, almost everyone has a Target nearby.

The registries can also be accessed online, and it should be noted that their online selection tends to be much better than the in-store selection for baby items.

As far as a completion bonus, you get a 15% coupon in the mail 6 weeks before your due date for items not yet purchased. Like the Babies ‘r’ Us coupon, it’s only good for one day, but you can use it as many times that day as you want. I’m not sure how useful that is, but some might be able to take advantage of it.

The return policy isn’t great. You have 1 year to return new, unopened items if you have a gift receipt; Amazon & Babies r Us will accept opened and used items under most circumstances.

The big downside to Target is that their selection is much smaller than both Amazon and Target, especially in-store. Many people find it very frustrating, especially because the stock of various Targets tends to vary wildly; some stores will have certain things while others will have completely different things, and the online stock tends to be gone.

All in all, I can’t recommend Target’s registry. The frustrations greatly outweigh the conveniences, and it’s just not worth it.

    Summary:

    • Completion discount: 15% off coupon 6 weeks before due date; must be used in 1 day
    • Return policy: 1-year return on items that are on your registry
    • Selection: Not great, especially compared to Amazon & Babies r Us

Conclusion: What Registry Do I Recommend?

I’d suggest Amazon; in my opinion, they have the best registry for a few reasons.

If you’re a member of the Amazon Mom program, you get a 15% completion discount (otherwise it’s 10%, which is still good) and if you have Prime, shipping is free. They also have the widest selection when compared to the other options, but the only downside is that they don’t have physical stores so all of your gift-givers need to be okay with shopping online.

Click here to check out the Amazon Baby Registry program!

If you don’t want to limit your gift-givers to online shopping, the next best option is probably Babies r Us or Buy Buy Baby depending on whether or not you live in an area where shopping at either is more convenient.

Pottery Barn can be a nice choice if you like what they offer, but it is more expensive and less convenient. I couldn’t personally recommend Target, and it should really only be a last resort choice if none of the other ones work for you.

What Should I Put on My Registry?

Funny you should ask! I’ve written a thorough guide on what you should and shouldn’t have on your baby registry: you can find the guide right here. It tells you what’s necessary and what’s not so necessary.

    Good luck! :)

    1. Thank you for pointing out Amazon’s baby registry. I figured that Amazon probably had a lot of good baby products, but I didn’t realize that their registry was so extensive. I have been looking through it since reading this article the first time, and my wife and I will definitely be using it.

      1. It’s definitely the best compared to everything else!

    2. Thanks a lot for the article! I am going to open my registry on Amazon. I love it!

      1. I’m really glad you found it useful! Good luck with the registry!

    3. It seems as though guests can still purchase items in store when you register at Amazon, but they need to go online and mark the item as purchased so that the registry is updated. Am I correct? I’m having an out of state shower, and many of my guests will be avoiding online shopping for generational reasons ;) I was hoping to make it easy for them to update the registry though. Do you know how that works?

      1. Hi Laura, I updated my guide with a step-by-step explanation of how your guests can mark things as purchased from other stores. Thanks for leaving a message and let me know if you have any more questions!

    4. This is a very helpful guide! I registered at Amazon, Babies R Us, and Buy Buy Baby. I love Amazon based on the selection alone, but the one thing I learned the hard way is that if any of your guests make a registry purchase through an Amazon third party (instead of direct or a trusted seller), you *can’t* ship the item back for a return. Instead, Amazon tells you that the purchaser needs to initiate the return which makes it a moot point as you probably don’t want to tell that person you’d like to return their gift. Otherwise, all other returns are straightforward — you just print out a prepaid return label and send it off through UPS or USPS.

    5. Question about the Amazon registry. When I look through their FAQ’s online, I notice that for items sold by a third party vendor you’d have to go back to the purchaser to process a return. Did anyone run into this issue? I started to create a registry then noticed that 75% of what I selected was being sold by a third party vendor vs. Amazon.

      1. Jamila, that is unfortunately true. Maybe I should add that as a note to my article, thanks for pointing it out.

    6. I’m 17 weeks into my first pregnancy and have been stressing about my registry! I have been having a lot of trouble with Target already and searching for alternatives. This was very helpful! Thanks : )

      1. Hi Jess, I’m so glad it was helpful to you! Good luck with the pregnancy! :)

    7. I’m going to check with target customer service to verify (since I did mine with target and BRU), but it appears from their registry completion discount instructions that they’ve recently added the ability to issue multiple 15% off coupons for your friends and family (which I don’t know how they could stop you yourself from using these ~5 coupons on various days in store or online, thereby giving you 5-6 days of separate shopping if needed?). They also have wording that sounds like on the one day you can use your own 15% coupon that it can be done in store AND online – so that way anything you couldn’t get at the store can still be ordered online. Plus remember, with Redcard and cartwheel there’s sometimes additional 5%+ off entire purchase. A lot changed from 2 years ago when I registered for my first child’s birth.

      1. Christine, that’s awesome! Thanks for letting everyone know; I didn’t know this either! :)

    8. Loving my Amazon registry! I find most of my friends have a prime membership so most people are using it. I also registered at BBB but have started to migrate all my items over since no one seems to want to buy from there. I would second what someone else pointed out that you should try and pick the prime items otherwise you can’t return without notifying the sender. I changed my mind on something and now feel like I am stuck with it. Overall pretty happy with Amazon and planning a big delivery using my completion discount!

    9. NO! Do not go with Amazon! They will force your friends and family to get a membership ($99) to buy you a gift!

      1. Sarah, that’s simply not true. I think there must have been some kind of mix-up, because their baby registry service is 100% free for both the registree and their friends & family.

    10. It looks like the completion discount on Amazon.com works the same way as on Babies r us. A one-time discount on select remaining items from registry. It points out that all items you intend to buy have to be purchased at the same time….

    11. This was a really interesting article, but what about WalMart? Any particular reason why it wasn’t even mentioned? I would think that they beat Target in a number of areas, not the least of which being price and accessibility.

      1. Truthfully, the main reason is that I simply don’t like Walmart! But I suppose I could cover them for the sake of completeness here.

    12. Hi, thanks for a great comparison! My biggest wish from my baby shower is a stroller and I was thinking about asking for gift cards rather than gifts so I can add them up for a stroller. Has anyone done this?

    13. I’m 13 weeks pregnant with my first and just starting to think about where we should register. Initially I was thinking Target as one place because the bedding I want they have. Now I’m not sure, maybe we juts buy the bedding and do somewhere else completely. I do have a question, you mention that amazon you can return things up to 90 days after purchase. What if you didn’t even receive the gift until after the 90 days is up? Did you have any advise or experience with that?

      1. Katie, the 90 days starts from the date of delivery, so if you receive the gift after 90 days, you technically can’t return it. In my experience, Amazon will sometimes accept returns after the return timeframe is up, but it’s not reliable.

    14. This is my first pregnancy and I’m 17 weeks along. I’ve decided to register via Babies R US, Buy Buy Baby, and I’m thinking to also add Amazon to the list as most of my family is from out of town.

As I register across all of these though, do I register for the same items across all OR how does one tackle this? HELP!

      1. That’s a hard one. If you register on all of the different sites, there’s a good chance you’ll get multiple of the same item unless your buyers are very good at marking the items off on all the sites. Does anyone else have a good solution?

    15. Target gives you a gift bag worth about $50 of baby products in store!

    16. I am throwing a baby shower and the mom to be wants to do Amazon for her registry. I’m nervous this is a bad because what if the gifts do not come in time for the baby shower? Some people tend to buy gifts last minute. And will the gifts come in pretty wrapping with a card on who brought the gift? Also, all the gifts will be shipped to her house, then we have to transfer it from her house to the baby shower location. Seems too complicated!
      Any advice?

      1. The gifts will be shipped to whichever address is assigned to the registry, or to the buyer’s house, and nope, they won’t have any gift wrapping or anything like that.

Ideally, the gift buyers will buy from the registry and have it shipped to their house, where they will gift wrap it there and bring it to the shower.

    17. Under TARGET YOU MENTION RETURN POLICY IS 90 days then 1 year…wondering which it is?

      1. My mistake; I updated and fixed it. It’s one year.

Amazon Baby Registry [ Ultimate Guide To Find & Create ] $35 Worth Gift

    Final Verdict

Having a checklist of baby essential is good but having it on amazon is superb.

Amazon is a large company & they definitely know what your baby needs and when?  The convenience and discounts make it a great thing to have the Amazon Baby Registry, mainly when you are already a member of Amazon Prime.

Almost all your family and friends are most likely comfortable purchasing on Amazon since they probably purchase from Amazon on their own.

If you know that you’ll likely need some specific things from other websites, the option for the universal registry is an excellent bonus.

It is also fun to get the welcome box, although you won’t get samples that will blow your mind.

Give this a try, and you’ll be glad you did.

Now it’s your turn, let me know what you think about the Amazon baby registry. If you have any questions then just let me know in the comment box.

And don’t forget to share this article, because sharing is caring.

Whether your baby shower is already in the works or you’re doing some pre-planning ahead of time, we can help you build the perfect baby shower registry list.

What Is a Baby Registry List?

A baby registry is a list of items from a local store or online shop that you would like to receive at your baby shower or before your baby's birth. The list can also serve as an organizing tool to help you keep track of what you still need to get once you see what you’ve received at your baby shower.

There’s no need to hold back when making your registry. Think of all the things, both big and small, you’ll want and need for your baby’s first few weeks and months.

The longer your list of baby shower registry items is, the more choices your friends and family will have. It’s a good idea to include a wide variety of price points, too, so there’s something on it to suit everyone’s budget.

Aim to have your registry list created by the time the host of your baby shower sends out the invitations, so that the details of your registry can be included on the invites.

    Benefits of a Baby Registry

By creating a baby shower registry list, you can let your loved ones know what you really want and need; they, in turn, will appreciate knowing that they’re giving you something you’ll love and use.

It’s also a great way to avoid getting duplicate gifts. By having a registry, you can be sure to have the essentials you’ll need for those first weeks and months with your new baby.

You might find it’s not just baby shower guests who ask you for your registry details, but perhaps co-workers and others like your neighbors who may want to surprise you with something from the list.

When Should You Create Your Baby Registry?

You can put your baby shower registry list together whenever you have the chance, but try to give yourself plenty of time to research products and think through what you need. You’ll want it to be ready by the time your baby shower invites go out, so check in with the host of your shower about when she plans to do this.

Like many moms-to-be, you might find it convenient to start to prepare your registry toward the end of the first trimester, adding more items during the second trimester as you start making decisions about which products are best for you and your baby.

You may want to change or add items to your list once you know your baby’s sex — if you’re finding out ahead of time, that is! You might be able to find out whether you’re having a boy or girl when you’re about 20 weeks pregnant during the mid-pregnancy ultrasound.

Once your baby shower registry is complete, the host of your baby shower can include your registry information in the shower invitations or share it via email or social media.

Things to Consider When Choosing Where to Register

You can create a registry in person at your local department store, big-box store, or independent retailer. You can also make a registry online through sites like Amazon.com, Target.com, and Babylist.com.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing where or with whom to create your baby registry list:

    • What’s convenient for your family and friends. You might like to have a physical store registry as well as an online option so that it’s easy enough for those who prefer to walk into a shop and choose a gift, as well as for those who prefer to shop online.

    • How easy it is to create and manage. Ask around and try it out to make sure the registry list is simple to use. It should also be easy for your baby shower guests to navigate. Online registries might be a good choice if you want to take your time adding and deleting items as you do your research.

    • Low prices. Shop around and choose to register with a physical or online store that offers good prices. Have a selection of variously priced items on your registry list to ensure all your baby shower guests find something for their budget.

    • Wide selection. Some stores offer a wider selection of product types, brands, and models than others. Check to make sure the items you’d like are on offer.

    • Discounts and promotions. Find out whether the store offers special deals or price match guarantees. Others might give you freebies like samples and coupons for registering with them. Some offer a discount when you buy those remaining few items that weren’t purchased by your baby shower guests.

    • Easy returns. Even though you’ve created your registry, you may still want to return some items if you change your mind. Check whether the exchanges and returns policy is generous before deciding on who to register with.

    • Free shipping. Some registry lists offer free shipping, or free shipping over certain spending limits. Those browsing your registry list will appreciate this.

    • Personalization. Some stores let you personalize your online registry with photos, while others let you track who bought what so you can send thank you notes more easily.

Best Websites for a Baby Registry

Every store’s registry has its benefits. So, I’ll go into detail below regarding those in order to give you the information you need to decide which registries to sign up with.

Some people sign up for just one, others sign up for multiple registries.

Check out the details and benefits of each to see which baby registry programs might be best for you.

    1. Amazon

    baby registry on amazon

Amazon has a pretty comprehensive baby registry program with many benefits. Here is a list of the program’s features.

Extra Discounts and other Benefits for Prime Members

free welcome box, universal registry, completion discount

If you are (or become) an Amazon Prime member before – or when – you create your registry, you will be eligible for an extra 15% completion discount on qualifying purchases.

A completion discount applies when you purchase the remaining items on your baby registry list after everyone is done giving gifts.

If you’re not a Prime member, you’ll still be offered a 10% completion discount.

However, you might want to check out these ways to get Amazon Prime for free if you don’t currently have the service.

You’ll also be eligible for rotating offers such as their Welcome Box, discounts from baby product partners, store product savings and more.

Bonus: as an Amazon Prime Member you’ll get free 2-day shipping on all orders and free access to Amazon Prime Video.

Don’t want to become an Amazon Prime Member? That’s okay: you’ll still get a 10% discount on almost any item you purchase as a baby registry member.

    Universal Registry Management

You can create, add to or edit your baby registry list at any time from any device. This is a convenient amazon baby registry look up that makes it easy to manage your registry with Amazon.

In addition, you can add items from any other store site to your Amazon baby registry when you use Universal Registry Management.

    The Largest Selection

Amazon has just about the largest selection of any store around, and their prices are lower on many, many items.

When we’re price shopping for stuff, Amazon is our first stop, and then we compare prices from there, but we almost always end up buying from Amazon.

With over 270,000 baby items to choose from at this writing, you’ll almost certainly find what you need for your baby on Amazon.

    Return Policy

If you’re not satisfied with a gift you get from your Amazon Baby Registry, you have up to 365 days to return most items for a full refund.

This feature will help ensure that none of your wachovia bank hours on saturday sit in a closet or drawer unused.

All in all, there’s a lot of great things about the Amazon Baby Registry program. One down side is that you can’t just go into the store and see, feel and examine things.

And you can’t buy and bring them home the same day, and neither can your gift-giving friends and relatives.

Also, technology might be a problem for older folks who prefer the old-fashioned way of shopping.

But for the majority of users Amazon makes buying baby gifts for registry members super easy, and it makes creating a baby registry well worth the effort for parents.

    2. Target

    target baby registry

Target has another popular baby registry program.

With over 1800 brick-and-mortar store locations in the United States alone, your gift givers are bound to find a Target store near them as they shop for gifts for your baby.

So, what does the Target Baby Registry program have to offer? Lots. Let’s check out the benefits.

    Both Online and In-Store Registry

Because Target has hundreds of store locations throughout the U.S., you can register online or you can head into a store location to register.

One benefit of registering in-store is that you can get a better, more thorough look at the products they have available.

While the online store will definitely have more products for you to choose from, registering for your baby directly in a store location will help you get a better idea of the quality of certain brands, colors, etc.

I don’t know about you, but I always get the warm fuzzies when I wander through the baby department at Target or other stores.

Those same warm fuzzies don’t come when I’m shopping for baby products online.

If you do have to shop online, use this link to get free shipping on any orders over $35.

    A Welcome Kit

Everyone who creates a baby registry at Target gets a Welcome Kit worth $150.

The Target Baby Registry Welcome Kit is loaded with sample items and coupons that will help you get your baby off to the right start and help you save money at the same time.

     A Completion Discount

Like Amazon, Target offers a completion discount when you purchase the remaining items on your baby registry list after your due date passes.

The Target completion discount is 15% across the board. It applies to all items left in your baby registry 8 weeks before your due date.

First, it can only be used for one in-store purchase and one online purchase, meaning you only have two “trips” to complete your baby registry purchases.

Also, there are certain brands that the discount will not apply to. See the Target website for details on excluded brands.

Also, know that you can’t use your discount to purchase gift cards.

    Easy Returns

Target works to make baby registry item returns easy by giving registry members up to one year to return “most new, unopened items” at a local Target store.

Make sure to save receipts that you receive with your items. This will help when returning to a store so the cashier can determine if it was from online or in the store.

    Universal Registry

As with Amazon, your online Target registry can include items from many other websites.

This is a great feature for online shoppers if you have items you want that aren’t sold at Target.

    Group Gift Giving Feature

Target makes it easy for people to go in together on larger gift items on your baby registry.

Let’s say that Aunt Susie, Cousin Mary, Cousin Jenna and Grandma Jane want to go together to purchase a car seat for you, and that car seat costs $100.

Someone in the group starts a group gift purchase.

They’ll actually be sending you a gift card that includes a note saying “To be used toward the purchase of X brand car seat”, but you do have the option to purchase other things with it as well.

Each member in the group gifting group will receive an individual link where they can go and contribute a specified dollar amount toward the e-gift card.

The e-gift card is then sent to you and you can purchase the item specified or a different item.

    Personalized Page Features

Target’s Baby Registry program comes with the ability to personalize your online registry with features such as custom URL and photos.

This is a fun little benefit that can help people have an insight into you and your journey into parenthood.

    Tyler and Kimberly's baby registry

    Baby Registry Checklist

Target helps you get an idea of what items to include on your registry with their checklist. Super helpful for first time parents.

    Gift Tracking

The Target Gift Tracking feature helps you see who has given you what, along with who you’ve already thanked and who you haven’t.

This feature requires some input from you as the recipient, but it does provide you with an easy, online place to keep track of thank you notes sent.

As with Amazon, there’s a lot to love about the Target Baby Registry program.

In my research, I found little in the way of negatives other than the fact that online purchases can sometimes be cumbersome to return at store locations.

    3. Walmart

    baby registry on Walmart

The Baby Registry doesn’t seem to have all of the features that the registries at Amazon and Target have, but there’s still a lot to love about registering for your baby at Walmart.

Here are some of the benefits of Walmart’s Baby Registry program.

A Welcome Box for All Registrants

All who register for Walmart’s Baby Registry program get a free Welcome Box with a value of up to $40.

The site doesn’t share a lot about what their Welcome Box contains; it simply says it will include product samples for each stage of your baby’s development.

There’s also a disclaimer that the boxes are available only while supplies last.

I’ve done a good bit of research about this program over the years however, and I’ve never headed onto the site without the offer for a Welcome Box being in place.

However, that could change if supplies do run out according to the Walmart website.

    The Walmart App

As with most stores these days, Walmart has a downloadable app that will help you easily track your baby registry progress from your smartphone or other device.

Available for both Android and Apple.

    Virtual Registry Assistant

Walmart’s Virtual Registry Assistant can help recommend products for you to add to your baby registry.

This is a nice feature, especially if you’re expecting your first baby.

    Free Returns

It’s always free to return a baby registry item you’ve gotten from Walmart as long as you return it within the timeframe specified on their website.

The website says up to 365-day returns allowed, but this can vary according to the product.

As I perused the website’s return policy, they talked about some items having a 15-day return policy, others having a 30-day return policy and others having a 90-day return policy.

Check out their returns web page to find out more information on how long you have to return specific items.

Note: If you have an item on your online baby registry that was not fulfilled and shipped from Walmart but instead from an outside company, you will have to return it directly to that outside company, and likely at your own cost.

If you’re looking at something not sold and shipped by Walmart, there will be a little blurb that says “Sold and shipped by…” stating the name of the company.

If there’s no such blurb, the item is likely sold and shipped directly from Walmart. This is something you may want to keep in mind as you choose the items for your online registry.

Simple American state bank online Effective

Walmart’s Baby Registry program may not have a lot of bells and whistles, but it’s a great basic registry that can fill most all of your baby’s needs.

And there is a Walmart in most every city these days (over 4,500 in the United States currently).

This means that gift givers from all over the country shouldn’t have to travel too far to purchase a gift from your registry list if they’d rather buy in person than online.

    4. Buy Buy Baby

    buybuybaby baby registry

Buy Buy Baby stores aren’t as expansively located as Target and Walmart stores are, but according to their website they do have 135 locations across the U.S states.

If you are registering for the baby registry online, Buy Buy Baby will send you a free goodie box with samples for baby.

Another cool feature of the Buy Buy Baby Registry program is that you can get rewarded for referring friends and family members who are expecting a baby.

If you refer a loved one, and they sign up for their own registry, you as the referring party get a coupon worth $25 off of any $100 purchase at Buy Buy Baby.

The referral program notes did say, however, that the purchase using the coupon has to be an in-store purchase, so beware of that stipulation.

Another great feature of the Buy Buy Baby registry is the Diaper Fund. With Diaper Fund, friends and family can give cash gifts at any time to go toward diaper purchases.

Or you can stop in at a store location, or call their customer service line to register for your baby as well.

Here are some of the other features of Pottery Barn’s baby registry.

    Complimentary Design Services

Pottery Barn Design Studio Specialists will help you create the perfect nursery for your little one’s arrival, free of charge.

You can visit a store in person, call their customer service number or look online for help in creating your nursery.

    A Completion Discount

Pottery Barn’s completion discount is the highest of those I’ve seen for baby registries; they offer a 20% discount on any item you purchase yourself for up to six months after your event date, provided you had those items listed on your registry.

You can use your discount starting 60 days before your due date.

    Hassle Free Exchanges and Returns

The company also promises hassle free exchanges and returns on any items purchased from your baby registry list.

You can return items up to 90 from the date of the event or the date of the purchase, whichever is later.

    8. Crate & Kids

    crate and kids baby registry

Crate & kids is Crate & Barrel’s store containing all things kid. When you register for your baby with Crate & kids, you can add items to your registry such as:

    • Baby furniture
    • Bedding
    • Toys
    • Decor
    • Storage

And more. Note that all Crate & kids bedding is made with organic materials. Other registry features are included as well.

    Free Design Services

Crate & kids will help you design your baby’s nursey–for free. Use their expert help to build the nursery you need for your baby.

    10% Completion Discount

You’ll get a 10% discount on items that weren’t purchased off of your registry. See the store’s website for discounts and exclusions.

    Free Shipping

You’ll also get free shipping on eligible purchases from your baby registry. The Crate & kids website can give you more information on how to qualify for free shipping.

    9. The Ultimate Green Store

    gift registry

The Ultimate Green Store specializes in environmentally friendly products for baby.

You can find a wide array of organic baby products here, including clothing, cloth diapers, baby sheets, nursing accessories, and more.

When you create a baby registry on The Ultimate Green Store, you can ask for gifts ranging from toys, to bedding, and more.

View, edit, and add to the list as you choose. Shop by store brand, or choose from organic products, BPA-free products, and home products as well.

    10. Babylist

put anything onto your baby registry from any store

The Babylist baby registry is an entirely different kind of baby registry than the others we’ve featured here. Babylist is a baby registry service of sorts.

This unique and exciting online baby registry was founded in 2011, and it’s grown exponentially since then.

Not only will it help you create a universal registry, but you can add items from the Babylist store as well.

Here are some of the features about Babylist you might like.

    Any Item from Any Store

Since Babylist is a registry service along with an actual store, you can put items from any store, anywhere on your Babylist registry.

Just add the items you find at online stores to your Babylist registry and gift givers can purchase them for you.

That means you can add items from the Babylist online store, from Indie baby item makers, and more.

    15% Completion Discount

You’ll also get a 15% discount on any items you added from the Babylist store if they weren’t purchased from your registry.

    Other Meaningful Gift Options

One feature that really stood out to me is the ability to add service gifts onto your Babylist registry. You can include gift options such as:

    • Meals delivered
    • Service-oriented gifts such as pet or babysitting an older child
    • Diaper service plans
    • Dog walking
    • House cleaning

Any new parent will tell you that gifts such as these are worth their weight in gold.

It’s so nice to have people bringing meals, helping with housework and helping care for kids and pets as you and your newborn get settled in.

    Hello Baby Sample Box

Babylist is currently offering a sample box for expectant parents that contains samples and coupons for your baby and parent needs.

Note that this offer is labeled “while supplies last”.

For the reason of the service gift options alone I would totally register on Babylist if I was expecting.

That’s our summary of some of the more popular baby registry sites. Now onto some information about what types of products you should register for on your baby registry.

    Key Registry Items

Thinking about what you and your baby might need before he or she even arrives can be overwhelming.

Here is a short list of things you may want to consider putting on your baby registry list to help you get prepared for parenthood.

    Large Ticket Items

Aside from the hospital bill, large ticket items such as cribs can be some of the most expensive things you’ll need to shell out for to prepare for your new baby.

That’s why it’s smart to consider putting items on your registry such as:

    • Your crib choice
    • A bassinet
    • A car seat
    • A stroller or stroller/car seat combo
    • A playpen
    • A high chair

Or other expensive items you may need or want. Although some people get nervous about asking for expensive items on their registry, many gift givers with smaller budgets are happy to go in with other people to buy a large ticket item together.

    Clothing Basics

Onesies, receiving blankets, bibs and one-piece pajama-type outfits come to mind here.

Between spitting up and other bodily functions, babies tend to need clothing changes a lot, especially in those first few months.

Put plenty of them on your registry list – and in a variety of sizes so that you’ll be covered for several months as far as clothing needs go.

    Other Convenience Items

I’m thinking specifically of things like hooded bath towels, humidifiers, baby thermometers, nasal aspirators, pacifiers and such.

And don’t forget the baby wipe warmer. Cold wipes on a baby’s bottom in the middle of the night will keep everyone awake. The warmer is a must have.

You may be surprised at how handy these types of items come in as you care for your newborn. Make sure to ask other new moms for their tips as well.

Beware of Asking for Diapers, Wipes and Formula

I caution against asking for disposal diapers, wipes and formula in large quantities on your registry.

Although these are great items to have, some babies may end up having sensitivities.

Hence gift cards are great to use to put towards diapers once you figure out the perfect brand for baby.

    Summary

Bringing a new baby home is one of the most exciting times in a person’s life.

Make sure you’re prepared by creating one or more baby registries that can help ensure you have everything you need for your new bundle(s) of joy.
